Happy Oceans Day in Bella Bella!
Today, everyone gathered to celebrate with our youth and community the beauty, bounty and vulnerability of the oceans that sustain our people.
Community members saw short films about cetaceans and oil tankers while live underwater footage streamed into the office from a diver on the wharf; the Coast Guard ship Tanu gave tours next to a touch tank and a hydrophone demonstration; and adventurous novice paddleboarders provided an exciting backdrop to the community seafood feast prepared on the beach with salmon cooked around the fire.
We’d like to share with you a few snapshots of the day – if you were here, thanks for inviting us to participate! If you weren’t – see you next year!
